Language is more than a translated website
An English website may describe the offer without establishing who will translate a class. Ask whether instruction, individual guidance, orientation and emergency communication are available in a language you understand. For silent retreats, written rules and interviews still matter.
Send a specific enquiry
Give your intended dates, available number of nights, nationality, language and previous practice experience. Ask whether the host accepts overseas participants for that exact programme and can accommodate you for the full period. Do not send a passport scan in a first enquiry.
Request a written total covering instruction, room type, meals, any mountain admission or transfers and the cancellation terms. Where a source has conflicting fees, we keep the conflict visible instead of selecting a number that may no longer apply.
Arrive as a guest
Ask about clothing, dietary arrangements, room sharing, photography, phone use and participation in communal routines. Religious institutions are also working communities. Follow the host’s instructions about spaces and activities open to visitors.
If an intensive schedule may be difficult for you, describe the practical adjustment you need and confirm it before travelling. A calm setting can still involve demanding physical training, early mornings or long periods of sitting.
